During the month of October, the children continued to talk about stories related to the fruits of the Spirit as they memorized “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.” (Galatians 5:22-23). The children have learned this verse well and with enthusiasm as they sing the song about the fruits of the Spirit. When discussing peace, they read the story of Jesus and His disciples in the boat during the storm.
The 0-4 year olds took turns rowing in a makeshift boat and making waves using blankets and talked about Jesus giving us peace when we have faith and trust Jesus to be there for us like He says He will be. When discussing patience, the children considered patience in light of the stories of the Bible, including Simeon and Job.
The 5-7 year olds identified with needing to have patience with younger sibling and patience regarding delayed rewards. When discussing kindness and goodness, the children read the story of the Good Samaritan. The 5-7 year olds acted out the story of the Good Samaritan and each had a chance to be each of the different characters (though the robbers were the most popular characters). When discussing faithfulness, the children heard the story of Naomi and Ruth. The 5-7 year olds responded by making friendship bracelets and necklaces to share with one another. (The 0-4 year olds also talked about prayer and how in Luke 18 Jesus teaches us to ask God persistently for our desires and needs. They made wands just because prayer is pretty magical.)
During the month of November, the children will finish learning about the fruits of the Spirit and then prepare to share something with the congregation for Christ the King Sunday. May our children learn more and more of the love of God and experience the fruits of the Spirit in their lives. Should you wish to join the volunteer team or visit one of the classes, please feel free to contact one of us. We would love to have you join us.
